[Vegan Hair Care Edition] Enhance B Releases ‘Going Grey’ Hair Color Shampoo & Treatment

New concept vegan-certified hair care products for healthy hair coloring and styling that solves hair aging symptoms

[COSINKorea.com Reporter Shin Bo-kyung] Following the recent increase of a younger age group with greying hair, shampoo and treatment products specializing in hair aging care have been experiencing a ‘release rush’. Products focusing not only on ‘solving concerns’ of skin aging but also of hair aging and ‘displaying an appearance of stylishness filled with natural years of experience’ are being released in the market.

Amid the release competitions of numerous brands, ‘Going Grey’, a new hair coloring brand that temporarily colors your hair healthily and safely, is leading the new hair color care market by resolving concerns over the side effects of existing permanent hair dyes.

Enhance B’s Going Grey, which offsets the shortcomings of existing hair dyes, provides products with a method different from permanent hair dyes for greying hair or root dying. The products prevent scalp irritation, watering eyes, damaged hair, and hair loss due to prolonged use of hair dyes or continuous chemical activities.

In particular, ‘Going Grey’, released by Enhance B (CEO Noh Seok-ji) last year, focuses on ‘well-aging (the beauty of aging well and healthy)’. Going Grey’s signature products, ‘Hi Color’ color shampoo and treatment (Clear Black, Mushroom Brown), have been selected as the 2021 Top Korean Beauty Brand in the hair care category.

# Contains plant-based ingredients, such as ‘echinacea extract’, a patented ingredient certified by EVE VEGAN

Going Grey’s Hi Color is a color shampoo that corrects your hair tone using grey as the base color. The two treatments (Clear Black, Mushroom Brown) give a coloring effect and can be used similarly as regular shampoo and treatment. The shampoo can be used every day with a recommended use of 1-2 times a week.

How long you leave on the treatment varies depending on your hair condition, but it can be used on average of 20 minutes, which will last about two weeks when used once. Going Grey is a brand developed to align with the Korean market’s demand by providing products that can be used safely and conveniently at home.

In addition, all ingredients have been certified by EVE VEGAN. It uses plant-based ingredients, such as echinacea extract, a patented ingredient, and Jeju carrot leaf extract, representing the corporate ethics of considering safety and the environment.

Going Grey has conducted research on hair colors for a long time to produce beautiful colors. It has been drawing attention particularly due to the direct participation of Director Lim Eun-sook, a hair color artist with 30 years of experience, in the product development. Director Lim Eun-sook developed Going Grey shampoo and treatment colors by evaluating each solution from people of various age groups and hair conditions, such as grey hair, prematurely greying hair, damaged hair, and bleached hair. The brand has also been garnering high expectations as it will be releasing new trend colors in late February.

Meanwhile, along with the Going Grey hair care brand release in February, Enhance B conducted a survey to come up with solutions for ‘hair health’, such as ‘premature greying and grey hair’, which are recent concerns for all age groups. The details are outlined below.

# A survey of 302 women in their 20s to 60s

Recently, Enhance B (CEO Noh Seok-ji) conducted ‘A Survey on Premature Greying and GreyHair Care’ with Daejeon University LINC+ Cosmetics ICC (Professor In-Charge Lim Mi-hye, also referred to as Daejeon University Cosmetics ICC). The results show meaningful data presenting consumers’ new perceptions and requirements for hair coloring (dyeing).

Enhance B and Daejeon University Cosmetics ICC conducted this survey to determine ▲ growth potential for hair coloring due to hair loss problems, ▲ creation of a new target group called ‘Golden Silvernior’ alongside the super-aged generation, ▲ expansion of the market for coloring to look stylish rather than to cover premature greying or grey hair, and ▲ consumer needs on healthy and beautiful hair coloring to look stylish to replace irritative hair dyes.

■ Results of the survey on premature greying and grey hair care (Survey : COSIN)

This survey was conducted with 302 women in their 20s to 60s with premature greying or grey hair. For a detailed data analysis, the age groups were divided into Below 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s.

# On average, premature greying, grey hair, and hair dyeing starts from the 40s

Firstly, the number of women with premature greying and grey hair increases as they get older. Until their 40s, women experience premature greying hair, but after their 50s, they are conscious of having half-grey hair. With the score of ’10’ equating to complete grey hair, ▲ those below 30s answered 3.2 for the average distribution of premature greying and grey hair, ▲ 40s answered 4.7, ▲ 50s answered 5.5, and ▲ 60s answered 6.5.

One-third of respondents in their 30s stated that premature greying has started, and 41.0% of those over 30s answered that they began to see premature greying or grey hair in their 40s. There has also been a case where premature greying appeared during teenage years (at least ten years old). The average age stated by the respondents is around 40.0 years old. The majority of the respondents answered 40s as the age group when they started dyeing their hair due to premature greying or grey hair, accounting for 37.4% of the total respondents.

# Hair dyeing at the salon is still the most common, while 36.4% are self-dyeing at home

As for hair dyeing, ▲ 52.3% answered that they dye their hair outside, such as at salons, ▲ 36.4% dye their hair at home using dyes sold in the market, and 20.9% pluck the hair out or cut it. On the question of complaints or experiencing failures when self-dyeing at home (multiple responses), ▲ 41.0% answered “Unable to dye areas that they can’t see (remaining grey hair)”, ▲ 30.0% “Uneven dyeing”, ▲ 28.1% “Damaged hair”, and ▲ 18.1% “Staining the pillow”.

27.5% of the respondents answered that they would dye their hair until their 70s to cover their grey hair, while ▲ 23.5% never thought about it, and ▲ 22.8% would dye their hair until their 60s. On the question of the cost of hair dyeing, 35.1% spend ₩10-20,000, and 31.1% spend ₩20-30,000.

# ‘Clear’ preference for brown and black colors, but attention to ‘grey color’

Furthermore, on the question of color preferences for hair dyes (multiple responses), 92.4% answered brown and black, and 65.9% other colors, while 42.1% preferred grey, which was an interesting result. In particular, 51.1% of women below 30s and 49.1% over 60s chose grey, indicating that people are increasingly using grey as a color to cover premature greying and grey hair, rather than simply for decorating their look.

39.1% answered that grey hair, including premature greying hair, is “stylish”, and 12.3% answered “very stylish”, equating to 51.4% of the total respondents responding positively. As for the popularity of public figures associated with grey hair or silver hair (optional response), 24.5% answered the former Foreign Minister of South Korea, Kang Kyung-wha. People also listed actresses Mon Sook and Youn Yuh-jung and Hollywood movie star Richard Gere.
