민감한 환경 변화에 대비하는 New Trend-setter

 

지난 9월 ‘미용과 라이프 스타일을 위한 화장품 과학’이라는 주제로 독일 뮌헨에서 개최된 세계 최대의 화장품 관련 학회인 세계화장품과학자학회(IFSCC)에서 SK바이오랜드는 신규 화장품 소재인 ‘Eucoolan™’을 발표했다.

 

전 세계에서 제출된 963여 편의 논문 중 단 85편만이 구두발표 기회를 얻게 되었고 SK바이오랜드는 ‘IR(열자극)을 이용한 Anti-thermal aging mechanism 연구와 적용 소재 연구’라는 주제발표를 통해 기술력과 연구 성과를 인정받았다.

 

지속적인 UV에 대한 노출이 피부에 미치는 영향을 나타내는 ‘광노화’ 개념은 오래 전부터 확립이 되어 왔으나 최근 연구에 따르면 IR(열자극)과 가시광선과 같은 다른 태양 파장도 외인성 피부 노화에 핵심적인 역할을 한다고 알려지고 있다.

 

최근 세계적으로 극심한 폭염으로 인해 여러 문제가 발생했으며 지구 온난화, 오존층 파괴 등으로 인한 기후 변화에 대응해 화장품 업계에서는 ‘열노화(Thermal aging)’에 대한 개념이 대두되고 있다. 피부의 온도가 올라가면 노화를 촉진시켜 피부의 탄력이 떨어지고 주름의 원인이 된다. 피부의 온도를 상승시키는 원인으로는 햇빛 속의 적외선을 비롯해 난방기, 주방 가열기기 등이 있다.

 

또 생활필수품인 스마트폰으로 5분간 통화를 하면 순간적으로 얼굴온도가 40도까지 상승하고 30분 연속 사용하면 피부온도가 43도까지 상승한다. SK바이오랜드의 Eucoolan™은 천연물에서 추출한 신규 소재로서 적외선 등 열로 인해 손상된 피부에 쿨링(Cooling) 효과를 주고 피부 노화를 방지한다.

 

 

인체 적용시험을 통해 피부 표면 온도 변화를 측정한 결과 Eucoolan™ 함유 제품을 사용한 그룹에서 IR과 같은 온도 변화에 대한 스트레스가 왔을 때 대조군과 비교해 Eucoolan™이 피부 내부에 작용해 피부를 강화시킴으로써 급격한 피부 혈류량 증가를 막아 피부 표면 온도가 크게 증가되는 것을 막아주는 것을 확인했다. 또 IR에 의해 증가된 MMP-1의 발현을 저해해 항주름 효능이 있는 것을 확인했다.

 

 

이와 더불어 SK바이오랜드는 다양한 외부 자극으로부터 피부를 보호할 수 있는 ‘Bio-cellularGEL’과 피부톤 개선에 효과를 줄 수 있는 ‘천마추출물’에 대한 연구 결과를 발표해 주목을 받고 있다.

 

 

글로벌 트렌드 맞춰 다양한 연구개발 진행

 

2017년 국제적 시장조사 기관인 민텔(Mintel)에서 진행한 22∼39세 사이의 국내 여성을 대상으로 한 피부상태에 대한 설문조사에서 ‘최근 2년 동안 자신의 피부가 더 민감해졌다’는 응답이 무려 72%에 달했다.

 

주요 요인으로는 미세먼지가 주된 원인으로 지목되고 있고 아울러 오존층 파괴가 지속되면서 증가하는 UV도 피부에 스트레스를 주는 요인으로 보인다. SK바이오랜드는 변하는 외부환경과 함께 변하는 소비자 니즈에 맞춰 다양한 연구를 진행하고 있다.

 

인체유래 각화세포(human keratinocyte)에서 벤조피렌에 의해 증가된 아릴 하이드로카본 수용체(AhR, 발암 단백질)나 CYP1A1(Cytochorome P450s, 발암 전구물질을 발암물질로 전환시키는 효소를 만드는 유전자)를 효과적으로 감소시켜 환경적 요인의 자극으로 민감해진 피부를 보호하는 소재를 탐색하고 있다. 또 나이가 들면서 자연스럽게 진행된 노화와 UV 등과 같은 외부 스트레스는 세포에너지를 생성하는 근원인 미토콘드리아의 기능을 저하시키는데 이러한 미토콘드리아의 손상을 회복시켜 주는 디에이징 소재를 탐색하고 있다.

New Trend-Setter Prepared for Environment Changed Induced Sensitivity

 

At the world's largest cosmetics association International Cosmetic Scientists' Association (IFSCC), held in Munich, Germany in September under the theme 'Cosmetics for Beauty and Lifestyle,' SK Bioland announced a new cosmetic material 'Eucoolan ™.'

 

Of the 963 papers submitted worldwide, only 85 have received the opportunity of giving oral presentations. SK Bioland gave a presentation on the topic "Research on Anti-thermal Aging Mechanism Using IR (Thermal Stimulation) and Research on Applied Materials" and was recognized for its outstanding research achievements.

 

The concept of 'photoaging', which shows the effect of continuous UV exposure on the skin, has been established for a long time, but only recent studies have shown that other solar wavelengths such as IR (thermal stimuli) and visible light play a key role in exogenous skin agin

 

As various problems have been caused by extreme heat in the world in the recent years, the concept of "thermal aging" is emerging in the cosmetics industry in response to global warming and climate change caused by destruction of the ozone layer. When the temperature of the skin increases, it promotes aging, while the elasticity of the skin drops and causes wrinkles. Causes of increased skin temperature include infrared rays in sunlight, radiators, and kitchen heating appliances.

 

In addition, facial temperature will rise to 40 degrees instantly with only a 5 minute phone call with a smartphone, and will rise even higher to 43 degrees when using for 30 consecutive minutes. Eucoolan ™ of SK Bioland is a new material extracted from natural materials, which delivers a cooling effect to skin damaged by heat such as infrared rays and prevents skin aging.

 

Skin surface temperature was measured as part of a human body application test. The group using Eucoolan ™ -containing product experienced stress due to temperature change such as IR. When compared with the control group, it was confirmed that Eucoolan ™ acts inside the skin to strengthen the skin, thus preventing skin surface temperature from increasing greatly. Furthermore the anti-wrinkle effect was also confirmed as Eucoolan ™ inhibits the expression of MMP-1 increased by IR.

 

 

In addition, SK Bioland is receiving attention as it published a study on 'Bio-cellularGEL' that can protect skin from various external stimuli and gastrodia elata extract that can help improve skin tone.

 

Rich Variety of R&D to Accommodate Global Trend

 

According to a skin condition survey given to domestic women from ages 22 to 39 and conducted by the international market research organization Mintel in 2017, a vast 72% answered that their ‘skin has become more sensitive over the past 2 years.’

 

Fine dust is being called on the main cause, while UV radiation, which is caused by the destruction of the ozone layer, also seems to be a stress factor for skin. SK Bioland is conducting various studies in accordance with changing consumer needs and changing external environment.

 

The company is searching for materials that protect sensitive skin by successfully reducing the benzo-pyrene-induced aryl hydrocarbon receptors (AhR, carcinogens) and CYP1A1 (the genes that make enzymes that convert carcinogenic precursors to carcinogens) in human keratinocytes. It is also exploring de-aging material that restore the damage of the mitochondria, as time-induced natural aging and external stressors like UV deteriorate the function of the mitochondria.
